On Sunday, April 27, 2024, the Alabama Holocaust Education Center (AHEC) will host a poignant Yom HaShoah Commemoration. The gathering will honor the memory of the over six million lives lost during the Holocaust and will feature moving stories shared by survivors and their families, who will pay tribute to victims, survivors, and liberators. This event will take place at the historic Virginia Samford Theatre and is free and open to the public.
We're celebrating the end of the school year with a skate party open to all Jewish teens in 8th through 12th grade! Dinner is provided.
Yom HaZikaron (יום הזיכרון) is Israel’s Memorial Day, a solemn day of remembrance for fallen soldiers and victims of terror. This program is intended for adults only.
4th, 5th, & 6th Grade Hebrew School As students begin 4th grade, we teach Hebrew through prayer. We focus on strengthening their decoding skills (mainly in 4th grade), Hebrew vocabulary within the prayers, and the themes, concepts, and meaning of different prayers during Tefillah on Sundays and Wednesdays. Our goal is to help develop our students’ capability to participate in Jewish prayer services. In 5th and 6th grade, students begin mastering the Erev Shabbat (Friday evening) and Shabbat morning prayers that they will chant for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah services.

Kesher: A Jewish Teen Experience for teens 8th through 12th Grades The Kesher program promotes community learning for our High School students in grades 8th – 12th. The students get to know each other by meeting twice a month, for twelve sessions, beginning in October, at the N. E. Miles Jewish Day School to share dinner and learn. During each session, students will participate in an elective class along with an all-group content-based activity. Each elective will be a current topic of interest. In addition, students will participate in two community mitzvah projects to be done on a Sunday. The students will be part of the decision about what they will do. We also hope to take a community trip if possible.
Come for a 'Nosh and Learn' (dinner provided), followed by a packing project to help Collat Jewish Family Services reinvigorate their "Friendly Visitors" Program. We will be learning about the Jewish value of service, the importance of caring for our elders, and packing activity bag for Friendly Visitors. All are welcome! RSVP Below:

Join us for our latest installment of Taking Action Together as we hear from Stanlee Stahl, the Executive Vice President of The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous and a renowned Holocaust educator. In her presentation, “The Mirror of Goodness,” Stanlee will address the rescue of Jews by non-Jews during the Holocaust. She will provide some general history on the Holocaust and will then address rescue within the historiography of the Holocaust. Who were the rescuers, what did they do, and why did they risk their lives and often the lives of their families to save Jews, many who were total strangers? After the presentation, you will have the chance to ask Stanlee questions during our Q&A.
