You Belong In Birmingham

You Belong In Birmingham (YBIB) aims to bring together young Jewish adults in their 20s and 30s to network with one another and connect them more deeply with our Jewish community. The project also reaches out to young adults living elsewhere, especially those originally from Birmingham, to encourage them to move to Birmingham.

You Belong In Birmingham also provides one-on-one support services to help young Jews build successful lives in Birmingham.

YBIB is staffed by Sarah Weinberger. All of the programs organized by YBIB are aimed at providing social opportunities, social action engagement, and religious and cultural connections.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We are always trying to engage our young Jewish community in the most effective way! Please take this survey to help us better serve you!

Under the direction of BJF Staff Sarah Weinberger, “Shabbat Around Birmingham” would be scheduled for four specified Friday evenings in 2022. Each designated Friday, YBIB will offer stipends of $118.00 to 6 YBIB participants who will commit to hosting a Shabbat dinner for a minimum of 6 people including themselves.  To receive the stipend, they must consent to and complete the following:

  • Send a picture of their gathering to YBIB that will be used on social media and in publicity.
  • Agree to submit a follow-up summary email including thoughts and feelings about the Shabbat experience – including an “AHA” moment from the experience.
  • Confirm the names and number of attendees at the Shabbat dinner.

In addition, each host would receive a Shabbat B’Yachad branded goody bag which would include Shabbat themed items such as candles, challah, grape juice and possibly a Shabbat “conversation starters” game.
