How do we manage times of hardship and fully embrace moments of joy—not alone, but in community? What does Jewish wisdom offer in terms of how we can truly show up for each other? Rabbi Sharon Brous grapples with these questions and more in her book The Amen Effect: Ancient Wisdom to Mend Our Broken Hearts and World. This monthly alternative service is called Kehillah, or community, and will include stories and practices based on this book, along with songs and silent reflections. Reading the book is not required, and you're welcome to come to one or all nine sessions throughout the course of the year. Of course, reading the book will add richness to your experience, if you feel so moved. A copy of the book is available for browsing in the Reading Room at Beth-El. Join us for a viewing of “Maktub”, an Israeli comedy about Steve and Chuma, two criminals who are the sole survivors of a terrorist attack at a restaurant in Jerusalem. Thankful for their survival, Steve and Chuma reevaluate what they do for a living, and they start using their connections in the criminal underworld to fulfill wishes they find at the Western Wall.

Please join us to assemble goody bags for patients receiving treatment for glioblastoma at O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center .  Altamont School student Tillman Hamric, son of Nancy and Barry Hamric, will speak about his special friend, Tricia Taylor who passed away from this cancer in 2019 and his efforts to raise awareness and money to help find a cure Monday, August 5th at 11:30am-1:30pm; bring your brown bag lunch.
