Levite Jewish Community Center 3960 Monteclair Road, Birmingham, Alabama, United States

n honor of Tu B'Shvat, join us for an afternoon of short films that explore our relationship to the natural world and the responsibilities that come with stewardship. Through 3 powerful, Alabama-centered documentaries, we'll look at how water, land, and living ecosystems sustain communities and how they are being challenged in this moment. After the short documentaries, Alabama Rivers Alliance will lead a talk back. About the films: Hyperscaled exposes the hidden environmental and community costs of rapidly expanding data centers and AI infrastructure, focusing on the strain on water and energy resources in the Southeast. The River's Gift offers a quieter, healing story of veterans finding connection and restoration through the Tallapoosa River and the natural community it sustains. Salabama invites us underground into the fascinating world of Alabama's salamanders, revealing the beauty and fragility of often-overlooked ecosystems. SOUTHERN EXPOSURE is a film fellowship program actively raising awareness about Alabama's incredible natural resources and important environmental issues that impact all of us. Captured and interrogated by the Monuments Men after the war, Lohse served a brief prison sentence. Following his release, he profitably dealt in stolen art for sixty years, selling to collectors, galleries, and major museums.
