Calling all Alabama educators! Join us for this inter-disciplinary teacher workshop, facilitated by Sheryl Ochayon, a leader in the field of Holocaust education from Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem. Broken into four distinct sessions, this workshop will explore the Final Solution through a variety of different lenses, as well as the spirit of human resilience during atrocity. This teacher workshop is free for all Alabama educators. You will earn four hours of PowerSchool professional development credit, a certificate of completion, and lunch is provided. The first 45 educators to register will receive a $100 substitute teacher reimbursement credit! Join us for this exclusive educational and networking opportunity.

Performance of “Heschel’s Passover Eve”
The J — in partnership with Temple Beth-El, Temple Emanu-El, and the Jewish Community Relations Council — is offering a unique opportunity to see Heschel’s Passover Eve, a solo performance that takes an intimate “behind-the-scenes” look at a special seder hosted by Rabbi Dr. Abraham Joshua Heschel and to which he has invited his friend and traveling companion Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The play begins in April 1968. As Rabbi Heschel arranges the chairs around the seder table, we watch him rehearse for the coming event. His preparations give the audience an intimate look at Heschel’s complex, fascinating, and even tumultuous character. Yizhar Hess, the vice chair of the World Zionist Organization who commissioned the play, will be in attendance. An Evening of Inspiration with Holocaust Survivor Mark Schonwetter
Join the Alabama Holocaust Education Center, in partnership with the LJCC, for an evening of inspiration as we prepare for Yom HaShoah, the worldwide day of Holocaust remembrance. On May 2nd at 6:30pm, we’ll gather to hear from Mark Schonwetter, a Polish Holocaust Survivor and Co-Founder of the Mark Schonwetter Holocaust Education Foundation. Born and raised in Brzostek, Poland, Mark, his mother, and his sister spent six years hiding from the Gestapo. Walking miles by foot, the Schonwetters ran from ghettos to forests to righteous families’ attics, dodging the Nazis. Mark Schonwetter’s journey is a harrowing story of resilience, rescue, and survival. His memories are a testament to the strength of humanity in the darkest of times. Join us for this intimate evening of storytelling and remembrance. Honor the legacy of the past by witnessing the Holocaust through the eyes of a man that survived it.
