  • Sunday Afternoon Film – Plunderer – TEE

Temple Emanu-El 2100 Highland Ave, Birmingham, AL, United States

Plunderer is a feature-length documentary that focuses on the career of Bruno Lohse, a Nazi art dealer who served as Göring’s art agent in Paris and headed the ERR, the Nazis’ clearinghouse for confiscated art in France. Captured and interrogated by the Monuments Men after the war, Lohse served a brief prison sentence. Following his release, he profitably dealt in stolen art for sixty years, selling to collectors, galleries, and major museums. The film includes stories of Holocaust survivors working to reclaim their families’ lost artworks and examines the continuity between the post-war era and the contemporary art world and its secretive culture. Popcorn, candy, and soft drinks will be served. View the trailer here: https://youtu.be/vuypyjv-ZHA?si=5QD-LUJD5Y2vYo-- RSVP Here: https://ourtemple.shulcloud.com/form/plunderer

  • CJFS volunteers monthly at Community Foodbank of Central Alabama

    Community Food Bank

"See how food goes from donation to delivery by helping us sort and inspect donated food items, prepare the sorted product for our agency partners, and assemble food boxes for our programs." -Community Foodbank of Central Alabama Join CJFS volunteers every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 9-11am to help close the meal gap. "Over 246,000 of our neighbors and 68,000 children in central Alabama live in homes without access to adequate food (2023 numbers). That’s 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 people who experience hunger regularly. Additionally, many children fall within the meal gap – they do not qualify for federal nutrition aid (SNAP), and they would fall through the cracks without help from the Community Food Bank."-https://feedingal.org/find-food-near-you/ CJFS and the Jewish community are ready to step it up and show our support to the foodbank and our neighbors who face food insecurity.
