Donate to Temple Beth Israel in Jackson, MS
The Birmingham Jewish community stands in deep solidarity with Congregation Beth Israel and the Jewish community of Jackson, Mississippi, following the intentional fire that severely damaged their synagogue. As a fellow small Southern Jewish community, we understand how central a synagogue is, not only as a place of worship, but as the heart of Jewish life, connection, and continuity. When one of our communities is harmed, we all feel the loss.
We are heartbroken for our friends and colleagues at Congregation Beth Israel and for the Institute of Southern Jewish Life, whose offices are housed within the synagogue building and were also impacted by this act. Together, these institutions have long served as anchors of Jewish life in Mississippi and across the South. We send our love and support as the Jackson Jewish community mourns this violation of sacred space and begins the long process of recovery and rebuilding.
As we continue to learn more about how we can best support the Jackson Jewish community in the days ahead, we will share additional opportunities to help. In the meantime, the Birmingham Jewish community has opened a dedicated fund to support recovery and rebuilding efforts, and we invite community members to contribute here.
