The class will use PowerPoint images of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and architecture to create a view over time of the portrayal of the Jewish people and their Judaism by the works of both Jewish and non-Jewish artists and architects. This class will present a conceptual background but not an art-critical explanation about line, color, etc.
About Shirley: Shirley was born in Birmingham and has lived here for most of her life. After graduating with a BA from Northwestern University and many years of parenting, she returned to school and received a Master’s degree in Art History from UAB/UA. Following her MA, she was asked to be an Art Historian at UAB as an Adjunct. She spent 17 years teaching “Renaissance Through Contemporary Art.” As a member of Temple Emanu-El for about 60 years and a supporter and collector of contemporary art, my appreciation of the arts now allows Shirley to share her knowledge and passion.
